The highest standards
of welfare and care
Established in 2014, with three pregnant females, Sheriff Alpacas has grown to a 60-strong award-winning herd.
From its humble beginnings a decade ago, today Sheriff Alpacas is an elite herd of award-winning animals, boasting the highest standards of welfare and quality genetics.
Founder Caroline Barugh has spent the past decade building her knowledge and skills in herd management and camelid dynamics while enhancing her qualifications through industry assessments, most recently becoming an apprentice judge in the UK, which has given her further expertise in genetics balances.
Sheriff Alpacas offers the opportunity for existing breeders to access our alpacas, with a blend of genetics from the UK, as well as imported stud males from New Zealand, Germany and, most recently, America.

A focus on quality and welfare
Our primary focus has always been the welfare of our alpacas. We continuously test the soil and grass to ensure that our herd’s diet and mineral needs are being met.
We use the highest quality feed, routinely check our alpacas for illness, and monitor faecal egg counts to ensure no issue goes unchecked.
We vaccinate the herd yearly, support every alpaca with Vitamin ADE throughout winter and top up minerals every six weeks to keep our alpacas healthy and their fleeces in top condition. Additionally, the herd is situated on the grounds of an organic farm, which has helped enhance the quality of environment through in depth knowledge of grass type and grazing.
Caroline and her herd Manager Hannah have spent years fine tuning methods and farm practises, putting Sheriff Alpacas in a fantastic position to help new breeders start their own herd and learn all the skills needed to thrive and enjoy the experience.
Setting yourself up for success is crucial
Handling alpacas, penning procedure and paddock set up is information we feel must be passed on prior to purchasing alpacas. When we sell alpacas we make sure this information is included and practised with our support, with full training offered on-site or at the buyer's location
Caroline has undergone training using camelid dynamics techniques. Through this and her own extensive experience, she is able to share how to put this info practice, enabling handlers to be confident and safe.
Alpaca availability: Stud services & sales
The alpacas we have available will depend on what’s best suited to the needs of the new owners.
We sell groups of pet boys [when available], female weanling groups which are perfect for new breeders, elite pregnant females for more specialised requests and Stud males if they meet the highest criteria
We also offer drive-by Stud services. We use disinfected pens and spit masks to avoid any cross-contamination.
Explore our Stud Services page to find out more. The individual traits of the males are highlighted to allow breeders to match with the females in their herd for optimum results.
